What do you Religious People Think?
The world is at war with the world, whether it's outwardly declared or not. Jew hate Muslims who hate Christians who hate someone else and so on. Of course I'm generalizing, but basically you have many large groups of people who hate each other based on religious ideology. While most people on both sides are probably moderates, there fact remains that there is a large and undeniable problem on Earth between different religious groups.

I'm wondering if anyone would care to speculate on why God hasn't fixed this problem? In other words, with a billion Muslims and a billion Christians and 2 billion other types of people, wouldn't it be great if there were some guidance from God on this issue? It seems like we could all live in peace with a little more... intervention. A little more involvement from what appears to be something of an absentee landlord.

Truthfully, shouldn't there be just ONE religion? Our world has seen many, many religions come and go over thousands of years. Why did God let this happen? Did he want us to fight over him? Did he intend for millions and millions to be killed in his name(s)?

If I owned two dogs and they started to fight, I'd intervene to put an end to the problem. I'd take whatever steps were required to teach the dogs not to fight. In the end, I'd separate them if the problem seemed unmanageable.

People are different then dogs because we have the ability to understand instructions when presented to us. So why are we still fighting with each other? Why is there such a thing as Jihad? Crusades? Missionaries? Why haven't we been told by God that we should chill out? It's almost as if he's enjoying watching the world being torn apart by differences between our various cultures.

One thing that all religious people can agree on is that God is all powerful. So why not exercise that power to stop the madness and hatred?

Frankly, I'd rather be sitting around smoking a hookah with a bunch of Arabs then wondering if one day one of them is going to set off a nuclear bomb in my city. Can't we all just get along?

I'd like to hear your opinions on this topic. Why doesn't God stop the violence? Why it it necessary for Sunnis to kill Shiites? Arabs and Jews to kill each other? The list goes on and on. A truly loving and all-powerful God could put a stop to this kind of violence as easily as you or I blink our eyes, so why are we still a muddled society full of religious contradiction, turmoil and confusion over what to believe?

Well this will not be some super long response, mine is simple.

God gave us free will and the power to use it as we see fit. Why would god break his rule of letting us have free will all of the sudden and say "hey guys knock it off"

Just my two cents on the subject

I think it goes back to the question - "Why did God make us?"

If there is a God - which I believe - he could have made the perfect people, that did no wrong. Basically - they would be robots - already programmed out of the box.

Imagine that you are a parent? How excited are you about your kid being able to sweat? Not very? Why not? It is a remarkable achievement that allows them to regulate their temperature and show emotions. Wait - sweating was already programmed into them. They didn't learn it or aquire the knowledge. But when a baby takes its own first step - that is something to be proud of.

God could give us more guidance - but who's to say we would follow it? Even when God rains down fire and brimstone people find a way to turn to wickedness.

So why all the religions sprouting up? Because we are people. Religions often start with a noble purpose - but get twisted as power hungry leaders seize power. If man was already perfect their would only be one religion. Heck - there wouldn't be a need for a religion because we would already be doing all we need to without instruction.

God doesn't just want us to love him, he wants us to choose to love him. It is also easier to understand the lack of notice wars and killing take when you realize life here is just a small part of your existance.

--The world is at war with the world, whether it's outwardly declared or not.

Yes, you are generalizing. And generalizing is convenient to support a point.

--I'm wondering if anyone would care to speculate on why God hasn't fixed this problem?

God isn't in the micromanagement business. Oh and which God? I am presuming you mean the Christian God and not the Muslim God. Or do you perceive one God?

--In other words, with a billion Muslims and a billion Christians and 2 billion other types of people, wouldn't it be great if there were some guidance from God on this issue?

Which God. Let me speak from my knowledge, Christianity. There is guidance. It is called the Bible. Unfortunately, humans would rather hate. They only accept the convenience of the Bible as it applies to their lives. This isn't the Bibles fault; it's the human's fault.

---It seems like we could all live in peace with a little more... intervention. A little more involvement from what appears to be something of an absentee landlord.

He isn't absent. He isn't the landlord either. And he isn't their to make our decisions, that is our job.

--Truthfully, shouldn't there be just ONE religion? Our world has seen many, many religions come and go over thousands of years. Why did God let this happen? Did he want us to fight over him? Did he intend for millions and millions to be killed in his name(s)?

Its called Free will. We aren't Gods puppets. The Bible teaches us,

Thou shalt not put any gods before me.

This is God telling us he is the One. The 'one' religion you refer too. That doesn't mean we listened.

--If I owned two dogs and they started to fight, I'd intervene to put an end to the problem. I'd take whatever steps were required to teach the dogs not to fight. In the end, I'd separate them if the problem seemed unmanageable.

God did that too. That being said, does that mean your dogs never fight again? Or do all dogs stop fighting because of this one intervention? Your example is apples to oranges.

--People are different then dogs because we have the ability to understand instructions when presented to us. So why are we still fighting with each other? Why is there such a thing as Jihad? Crusades? Missionaries? Why haven't we been told by God that we should chill out?

He has, that doesn't mean we listened.

--It's almost as if he's enjoying watching the world being torn apart by differences between our various cultures.

This is a preclusion formed solely to support you're your opinion on religion. There is absolutely no basis. We understand your reticence to religion, but it is unfounded. The ideals you wish for are in Christianity. Your hatred for religion prevents you from this realization. You are so busy blaming religion, that you refuse to see its Man that is screwing up. Just because religion exists, doesnt mean man is immunized from hate.

--One thing that all religious people can agree on is that God is all powerful. So why not exercise that power to stop the madness and hatred?

See Below (Free Will)

--Frankly, I'd rather be sitting around smoking a hookah with a bunch of Arabs then wondering if one day one of them is going to set off a nuclear bomb in my city. Can't we all just get along?

I can t speak for Arabs.

--I'd like to hear your opinions on this topic. Why doesn't God stop the violence? Why it it necessary for Sunnis to kill Shiites? Arabs and Jews to kill each other? The list goes on and on.

Because they are men. In the Jews case, history has been filled with other nations attacking them, enslaving them. Maybe they are just tired of being pushed around and are fighting back. Had the Arabs not targeted the Jews, they would not be retaliating. Yet you seem to blame the jews.

--A truly loving and all-powerful God could put a stop to this kind of violence as easily as you or I blink our eyes, so why are we still a muddled society full of religious contradiction, turmoil and confusion over what to believe?

No he wouldn't. And you defining his love for your end to a means is presumptive.

God isn't a puppet master and we are not marionettes. When Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge, it presented our species with the tools to make our own decisions, Free Will as it were. We eliminated God from the picture. We assumed the responsibility of the knowledge and choice and our feet will be held to the fire, so to speak, at judgment day. God does not interfere. When we leave this husk, we are judged on our life.

Once again you associate the actions of 'Man' as the tenants of the practiced Religions. Christianity does not teach hate. Its 'Mans' twisting of the Word to suit his own prejudice. Man hates, not religion.

To give an example of what you are doing.

A car speeds down the road 80 MPH, and hits a child in a crosswalk through a school zone. The child dies.

Using your algorhythm of blame, the Car is responsible. You can see in my example, if the car is driven properly, the death could have been avoided. Your posts regarding religion are the same. You blame religion for mans hate. It is man who drives the hate, not the religion (at least where Christianity is concerned). I don't know the Quran or Torah, but the Bible does not teach hate. It teaches forgiveness and it teaches us that we are not the judges. This is your second blog blaming religion where man is to be blamed. You will never understand the issue until you can recognize the problem.

God isn't our manager. Even as the father of children, I must let them go out and make their own decisions, right or wrong. They are also responsible for their decisions. Repercussions can be jail, death, harm, illness or just bad breath.

God gave us the tools to make the decisions. It is up to us to use them.

If there were no religions would there really be no wars?

The USSR and China were technically at war in the 60's yet both governments are very antireligious.

Japan committed unspeakable horrors during WWII - live disections on Chinese, Bataan death March, disease experimentations - not based upon religious tenants, but because the subjects weren't Japanese.

One last item - imagine there is no God. Where did all of the religions come from? From the minds of man. So that means that the errors of religion are really inherent in man. So instead of blaming God - since you don't believe he exists - you should be blaming humanity.
