All Religious Books Need to Be Flushed
We are all aware of the controversy surrounding the alleged flushing of Korans in Guantanamo, Cuba by US soldiers who were attempting to unsettle detainees. As if that wasn't bad enough, Creighton Lovelace, pastor of Danieltown Baptist Church in North Carolina has put up his own sign in front of his church reading 'The Koran Needs to be Flushed!'

And people wonder why I hate organized religion.

In his own words, Lovelace says "we do have the Baptist faith and message that says that we should cling to the 66 books of the Holy Bible and any other book outside of that claiming to know the way of God or claiming to be God's word is automatically written off and is trying to defeat people from the way of true righteousness inside of our viewpoint in how we view the word of God".

Great. Thank goodness for Lovelace, because fueling further hatred against the US is just what we need right now. More intolerance. Let's elect this moron president to replace Bush, who has done his own wonderful job irritating the other half of the globe. I just wish Lovelace would get on a plane and go to Kabul to spread that message. Then perhaps he'd understand, as his head was being lopped off by someone equally pious (except a Muslim rather then a Christian) what religious tolerance it all about.

Organized religion leads to conflict. It's just that simple. It's ALWAYS been that simple. The more strongly people believe in their faith, they typically have corresponding feelings that are just as strong stating that other faiths are morally corrupt, dangerous, wrong, etc.

It follows logically that the most religious people in the world are also usually the most dangerous. After all, how can you truly believe in the bible and not truly hate what the Koran or the Torah stands for? You can't love them both. Osama bin Laden is a 4 letter word in the US, but his followers love and respect him. They see him as a very religious man who strong moral convictions. Frankly he's the type of guy religious conservatives would love if he wasn't a Muslim and if he wasn't trying to kill us all. The similarities between people in the religious right and those pious, but hate filled Muslims are many when we look beyond the obvious differences of faith. Both wish to control the lives of others based on the teachings of their respective religions. Both consider themselves pious. Both believe with all their heart they are 'doing the right thing' and most ominously, both would push a button and kill the other if it were just that easy.

Personally, I think we should flush ALL holy books - Bibles, Torahs AND Korans. Who needs them? They aren't worth the paper they are printed on when people like Lovelace feel are so eager to demonstrate the strength of their convictions.

Never assume an outspoken minority speaks for an entire relgion.

Does Bin Laden speak for all Islamic people? No - most are repulsed by the terrorist attacks. Especially since Islamics are being killed more than any other group right now.

Does Lovelace speak for all Christians? No of course not. But what about the people who base their lifes on faith and are good? How many atheists have done the work of Mother Theresa or Martin Luthor King Jr? Even Gandhi studied multiple religions to aid in his teachings.

Using the examples of a few to shut your mind off from an entire topic is not just foolish but also dangerous. What if the American public had said environmentalism is evil because of the people spray painting fur coats?

Even without bibles Lovelace would still find a way to spread hate and fear - it is what keeps him in power. There is always something to attack without going to the trouble of looking at yourself.

I feel the same frustration. Extremists are in all facets of life. Politics has them as well. The issue isnt the religion, but the morons spouting the diatribe.

I cannot speak for the Quran or Torah, but where Christianity is concerned, Lovelace screwed up. His screw up is depicted as what religion is, and for those of you who do not have faith, you are misguided by his actions.

The Bible is explicit in its direction.

Judge and ye shall be judged by the same veracity.

I hope Lovelace's ducks are in a row because as harsh as he is being, well, you get the message.

In short, the Bible does not direct this action. Blaming it for this morons actions is misdirected.

I liken this judgment as blaming the car for killing someone and not the driver.

I'm not sure that's fair. Atheists have committed their fair share of atrocities in the last century.

One thing you can say is that whenever money, power and regionaly control are at stake, nationalism and religion will be played for affect. I'm not sure its fair to point to religion as the cause of global power struggles - its just the tune the participants like to sing, since its the best at inspiring the troops.

The Torah is contained within the 66 books of the Bible.

It is called the Old Testament.

Extremist Christians are more similar to Muslims than any other faith...

Did you know that Christians (who are one of the 3 people of the Book) are not supposed to eat pork...just like Jews and Muslims?

Your wait is over!

Come on down to flushaholybook.com and get started on the flushing. Choose any of the major holy books and flush it down the toilet.
